Scottish Country Dancing
Holiday at the Crieff Hydro
Organised by
Furlongs Travel
June
6th - 13th 2014
The Crieff dance holiday recipe has
remained much the same since the first gathering in 1997 and has become a byword
for enjoyment. We get together to relax and to treat ourselves to a different
top dance band each night. Your
own holiday dates can be arranged to dance to the bands that are your personal favourites
or to fit in with other travel plans or commitments, staying for any
period from 2 to 7 nights or more. There are special discounts for weekend,
5-night and full week packages and, new for 2014, special discounts for parties from the same
dancing club.
To get a feel for the holiday,
you might like to read our Twitter stream
from 2013. There is also a Flickr gallery of photographs
showing all aspects of the holiday, hotel and surrounding area.
The
Dancing
The focus events of
the holiday are the evening dances to a different, A-list band every night
(with the exception of our special gala evening on the Tuesday). The traditional
ballroom has a lovely sprung floor and classical architecture, making it a
very memorable place to dance. The programmes are designed to allow
dancers of all levels of experience to relax and enjoy the evenings.
Although we don't give walk-throughs, we do give partial recaps - enough
to remind everyone of how the dance starts without disrupting the flow of
the evening. The programmes are published well in advance and a mini-crib
for every evening is available for download from the Furlongs
Travel website. To add a bit of spice to the proceedings, one slightly
more challenging dance and one simple, but newer, dance is included each
night. A half-hour practice session in the afternoon offers the chance to
walk them through and dance them before the evening.
On the Saturday, Monday and Wednesday there
is a dance class given by one of the leading RSCDS teachers from the area.
These classes are intended to provide a couple of hours of not too
rigorous instruction with the emphasis, as always with a Furlongs holiday,
on enjoyment and relaxation. |

The
Excursion
Guests who are
staying on Monday and Tuesday are invited to join our complimentary
excursion to explore one or two places of interest nearby. Previous trips
have been to the Royal Yacht Britannia in 2012 and The Glasgow Botanic
Gardens and The Burrell Collection in 2013.
Transport is by luxury coach and we will be
back in the hotel in plenty of time to relax before the evening's
festivities. |

The
Banquet
|
|
Our gala evening begins with a
reception where complimentary drinks (Buck's Fizz/Pimm's or Orange
Juice) are served. Then we proceed into the formal Drawing Room where our
four course banquet will be served. Wine orders will be taken at the
tables by the waiters and there is plenty of time to socialise with your
fellow diners. After the meal there is some surprise entertainment to
round off the evening.

The
Hotel
The award-winning
Crieff Hydro
is Scotland's leading leisure hotel with 60 indoor and outdoor activities,
61 if you include Scottish Country Dancing! In recent years the hotel has
spent over £40 million on additions and improvements. The hotel's public rooms and
facilities are now second to none and the staff are all extremely helpful
and committed to making your stay as enjoyable as possible. The accommodation is excellent, the
food is delicious and the ballroom has a wooden sprung floor - widely
accepted as one of the best in the country.
All bedrooms have
been refurbished to a high standard and have private facilities of bath
tub or shower, wash basin and WC, plus tea and coffee making equipment, colour TV and
telephone. |
|
The
Meikle Restaurant
Prices include
dinner, bed and breakfast. Most meals are taken in the Meikle restaurant
where breakfast is a leisurely affair and can include anything from fruit and cereal
to porridge or a traditional full cooked.
Our evening meals consist of a
variety of starters, hot dishes (including a carvery) and desserts with
tea and coffee taken in the winter gardens before the evening dance.

The
Hosts - Caroline and Graham Hamilton
In 2012, we were very honoured
to be asked to host the holiday on behalf of Furlongs Travel and we will
be making our third appearance at Crieff in 2014. In addition to running
Summer Tuesdays, we are both officers and Past Presidents of the Wembley
and District Scottish Association where we teach at the dance class
throughout the winter. Caroline also compiles the South-East Dance Diary
on behalf of the RSCDS
(London Branch) and Graham plays drums with The
Craigellachie Band.
We will be on site
throughout the holiday and our main aim is to ensure that everyone enjoys
every aspect of their holiday. We very much look forward to welcoming you
to one of the finest dancing holidays on offer.
